00 — Overview

R10 reference application. Built from the v0.14 Work & Supply reference pack. The demo data is fictional; manufacturer names and part numbers are illustrative.

What Catalogue is

Catalogue answers "what is this item?" — nothing about how many there are (that is Inventory) or what they cost and who supplies them (Purchasing, Supplier). Keeping the definition in one place means every application describes a part the same way, and a change — an item superseded, a substitute approved — is made once.

The 7 models

Items (3) - CatalogueItem — the item: code, description, type (part, consumable, rotable, repairable, tool, material, bulk material, service), unit, tracking flags (serial, lot, shelf life), manufacturer and part number, status, and what supersedes it. - CatalogueIdentifier — other numbers the item is known by: manufacturer, OEM, legacy (e.g. an old SAP material number), barcode. - CatalogueStatusHistory — every status change with its reason.

Substitutes & Fitment (2) - ItemSubstitution — item A may be replaced by item B: direct, conditional (with conditions and approval), superseded-by, temporary. - ItemApplicability — where an item may (or may not) be fitted: asset type / model / position, approved, preferred, conditional or prohibited.

Categories & Organisations (2) - CatalogueCategory — a hierarchy of categories. - Organisation — manufacturers (and suppliers named on items).
